FSSC22000

The Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000 was created for food manufacturers and integrates the ISO 22000:2005 food safety standard and the Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 220 for food safety. It was developed by a foundation based in the Netherlands for food safety certification and supported by the European Union Food and Drink Industry Alliance. FSSC 22000 has been approved by the Global Food Safety Initiative and is encouraged for widespread implementation. The certificate will be recognized under the standards of ISO 22003 and ISO Guide 65 (product certification), providing organizations with a comprehensive food safety management system.

 

The Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 220:2008 for Food Safety supplements the prerequisite programs applied to the ISO 22000 standard, making the latter more comprehensive and aligning it with the requirements benchmark of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) organization.

The issuance of FSSC 22000 signifies a step closer to the unification and global recognition of food safety standards. FSSC 22000 combines the ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management System, PAS 220:2008, and other additional requirements. Its content has also been recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). GFSI aims to maintain a benchmarking and auditing process for food safety management schemes, in order to achieve the unification of food safety standards. At the same time, by adopting the GFSI standards, which are widely recognized and generally accepted by global retailers, it is conducive to promoting cost efficiency throughout the entire food supply chain.

 

FSSC 22000 is a global and auditable standard for food safety management systems, incorporating Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), HACCP, and other management system requirements. FSSC 22000 provides food companies with a globally recognized standard, demonstrating that they have established a comprehensive management system and fully meet the food safety requirements of customers and industry regulations. This standard was designed from the outset to encompass all processes in the food supply chain, whether directly or indirectly related to the final product. It provides a unified approach to food safety management for businesses in the food supply chain and is easily accepted, implemented, and audited by organizations at different stages of the food supply chain.
